The year before Hurricane Bonnie struck the North Carolina coast on August 26, 1998, I had finished and published the above book with Missionary Jack Cates. Featured in "Moses and Elijah" was Hurricane Gilbert, the 7th tropical storm of 1988, which occurred exactly at the time the Rapture was expected!

 

 
A main supporter of the "Rapture 88" religious group [Pentecostal] was Jerry McLamb, who had earlier had a close encounter with a UFO [Flying Saucer] at the Erwin water tower pictured at top right of the above page of my book. I had also pictured Ted Bryant, mid-left, and Missionary Jack Cates, who helped spread the word that Jesus was returning on or about September 11-13, 1988. Who did arrive was Hurricane Gilbert!

I was working in the Good Hope Hospital in Erwin as an Emergency Room Physician during this "Rapture 88" period, and paid for a number of newspaper ads, like the one above.

The revised prediction: Something of major importance would occur in 1989, "an hour, a day, a month, and a year" [Rev. 9:15] after Gilbert.

 Nine years had passed after Hurricane Gilbert before Hurricane Bonnie struck the North Carolina coast. ....Two years longer than the 7 years Tribulation the Rapture 88 group had predicted. In that time I had learned from Barbara Thiering's book [above] that Jesus was an Essene, whose predictions were often wrong in some way or another. And by 1998 I was doing the Bible Computer Codes, including the Codes for "Bonnie"
