 CELEBRATION JUSTIFIED! Part 5

"Bob's Prayer"

LAST PART of SERMON by Pastor Bryan Aalborg

Foster Memorial Seventh-day Adventist Church, Asheville, North Carolina

September 25, 2004

"A guy named Doug Coe lives in the Washington DC area, and has a ministry in which he kind of hob-nobs with politicians, and runs in the circles of the affairs of state.

Doug became acquainted with BOB.

BOB is an insurance salesman.

BOB is completely unconnected to any government circles.

Because of his relationship with Doug, BOB gets interested in the things of scripture, and he becomes a Christian. He began to meet with Doug as a means to assisting him to grow in his new-found faith experience.

One day BOB came in all excited about a statement that he had read in the Bible, in which Jesus says, "ASK whatever you will in MY NAME, and you shall receive it!"

"Is that really TRUE?" BOB asks, a little skeptical.

"We-el", Doug counters, "It's not exactly a BLANK CHECK. You have to take it in the context of everything else the scriptures teach about prayer, but it really is TRUE.... Jesus really does respond to our prayers. He really answers our prayers!"

"Oh, GREAT" BOB replied, "I've got to PRAY for SOMETHING!"

"I think I'll pray for AFRICA!"

Doug wants to guide BOB in this whole experience about prayer,

and he says, "Well, you know that's kind of broad, why don't you narrow it down to just a country."

"OK, I'll pray for --- --- KENYA!"

"Do you know anybody in Kenya?"

"Nope."

"Have you ever been to Kenya?"

"Nope."

BOB just seemingly felt impressed that he should PRAY for KENYA.

So Doug makes a highly unusual agreement, and a highly unusually arrangement with BOB.

He challenged BOB to pray every day for KENYA for 6 months.

If BOB would do that, and nothing out of the ordinary happened, Doug would pay him $500!

BUT, if something remarkable DID happen BOB would pay Doug $500!

And if BOB did not pray EVERY DAY for 6 months, the DEAL WAS OFF!

Now that's a very unusual prayer approach. And I would add that it is not valadated by the scriptures. This was something that they were doing on their own.

There's nothing in the Bible about PRAYER BETTING!"

Bob's BACKGROUND and COMMENTARY: Once again let me make it clear that I am not the BOB of Pastor Bryan Aalborg's story presented to 200 or more listeners at the Foster Memorial Seventh-day Adventist Church on September 25, 2004.

But my name is BOB. ....Dr. BOB Holt, md. ......And pastor Aalborg knows I am using this story on this my web site..... But he is not at all responsible for my comments.

I started having one on one contact with angels or aliens or people possessed with angels or alien spirits in 1989..... Already by then I had written a number of songs, words and music, that I attributed to the Holy Spirit, rightly or wrongly. People with supposedly incurable diseases had indeed been healed instantly or after a short time when I prayed................ I knew about "Pentecost", and the Pentecostal Experience, because I was having it myself after the fall of 1988.

After Hurricane Gilbert devastated Jamaica in September of 1988, I went with Missionary Jack Cates to Jamaica with a shipment of food, a generator, and clothing for those who lost everything in the hurricane...... Some of those who went with us were actively believing that a secret rapture would occur at any time..... They pounded nails into Daddy Blair's roof in the middle of the Island of Jamaica, expecting at any time to disappear off that roof into heaven. ......They wanted to go into heaven and into eternal life doing what Jesus wanted them to be doing, and they were never more "ready" than they were on that day in late September of 1988.

EXPLANATION and DISCLAIMER: The sermon here by Pastor Aalborg is as he preached it. I not only listened to it live, but also picked up a taped copy of the sermon as supplied to all interested people who come to this church.

Pastor Aalborg knows I intend to put the "Bob's Prayer" part of this sermon on the Internet. But I did not tell him I am putting the rest of the sermon, up to his appeal to the church to pray six months as Bob did, also on the Internet. But he is after all a preacher and an evangelist, and the more who hear him, the better he likes it.

What he is NOT AT ALL RESPONSIBLE FOR, and indeed will probably be quite uncomfortable with, is my own explanations and historical comments about the "Celebration Movement" in Adventism, and other COMMENTS that will seem quite HERETICAL to almost everone who reads them! I was not taught many of these things by Pastor Aalborg nor by the Seventh-day Adventist church.....Dr. Bob Holt, MD ..10-24-2004
