Dr. Robert F. Holt, MD pictured here with this montage of pictures representing the Dead Sea Scrolls, is obviously biased towards Jesus #3, that Jesus was an Essene, but he'll discuss in 6 pages, continuing with this one, all these viewpoints and conflicting personalities for Jesus. On this page we'll discuss the possibility that Jesus, no matter what else he might be or have been, was acting as a Jewish High Priest part of the time, a view held primarily in modern times by Seventh-day Adventists.

SECULAR WRITERS, those looking at Historical Events and People who have changed the world in a significant manner, separate what can be proved about Jesus outside the Bible as being more important and less biased than the New Testament writers because of the odd way the Gospels and Acts are written, and because Paul's Epistles or "Letters" speak very little about Jesus' actual life. However, now that we have Dr. Barbara Thiering's research, we know that Jesus was, indeed, an Essene "Messiah", one of two. He was accepted by all of the Essenes as the "Messiah" of the bloodline of King David, but not as the Priestly "Messiah" of Aaron's bloodline. He did, however, arrange with Jonathan Annas, who held that more prestigious position, to swap positions on one very memorable occasion, which is mentioned in both the Gospels and in one or several of the DEAD SEA SCROLLS! |

In three of the Gospels this "Swap" between the two Essene "Messiahs" is pictured as the TRANSFIGURATION OF JESUS but in the Gospel of John it is treated more honestly - indeed honestly enough to be seen for what it was --- a temporary abterration breaking ESSENE rules -- that caused Jesus temporary embarassment and lost support.

Solving the "Riddle" of the Story of Jesus' "Transfiguration" In each of the three versions, Peter suggests building three TABERNACLES, one for Jesus, one for Elijah, and one for Moses -- This is a MAJOR CLUE that the incident occurred during the Jewish "Feast of Tabernacles" in which all Jews are supposed to build "booths" out of temporary materials like palm fronds, and live outdoors -- Also the discussion about the coming crucifixion dates this as the "Feast of Tabernacles" of 32 AD, first part of September. YOM KIPPUR, the "Day of Atonement" always followed "Tabernacles" -- on that day, the "Day of Atonement" the Priestly ESSENE High Priest always wore just such a white garment as is here described -- but Jesus as the other "Messiah", of David's bloodline was not allowed to wear this garment -- usually. So, a mere knowledge of ESSENE customs and protocol for the "Day of Atonement" allows us to learn about this troublesome swap The cloud that overshadowed everyone soon after the deed was done, the unauthorized SWAP, shows that someone with authority in the ESSENES was displeased -- as would be the case. The "cloud" was one of disapproval -- Simon Magus was the ESSENE "High Priest" who was supposed to keep Jesus from doing what he did here, -- his "beloved Son" had disobeyed him -- So everyone else appears shocked, or asleep, or in Peter's case "doesn't know what to say." And all are supposed to keep the incident a secret! NOW TO JOHN'S VERSION! |

Jesus at that time, in September of 32 AD, was living at Kherbit Mazin, near the Essene "Synagogue" was used by the "Fishers of Men" to baptize Gentiles in the salt water of the Dead Sea. I pictured it when I visited it there in the winter of 1992 and Spring of 1993 with this picture I painted from measuring and photographing the ruins there.
Jesus was living in one of the small huts you see here in the left foreground by the side of the synagogue nearer to us. This little hut most likely looked somewhat like this.
2 "Now the Jews' feast of tabernacles was at hand." (as we have discovered by the "hints" in our riddle of the "Tranbsfiguration") 3 "His brethren (real biological brothers, all younger than him, and all brought up as Essenes) therefore said unto him, Depart hence (out of this little hut), and go unto Judaea (6 Km away, by the monastery) that thy disciples (living in booths for the feast) also may see the works that thou doest ("walking on water" etc.) 4 "For there is no man (who wants to keep his position as an Essene "Messiah") that doeth any thing in secret, and he himself seeketh to be known openly. If thou do these things, show thyself to the world." 5 "For neither did his brethren (biological brothers, 4 of them, James, Joses, Juda, and Simon) believe in him (that he was or could be anything more than a "Messiah" of David's bloodline). 6 "Then Jesus said unto them (all younger than he), My time is not yet come: but your time is always ready (you'll get your chance after I'm gone, and indeed they did!) 7 "The world cannot hate you: but me it hateth, because I testify of it, that the works thereof are evil." (It was a political job, and politics always gets your hands soiled and your reputation tarnished!) 8 "Go ye up unto this feast ("Tabernacles"): I go not up yet unto this feast; for my time is not yet full come." 9 "When he had said these words unto them, he abode still in Galilee."(Here at Kherbit Mazin, not in the real Galilee 90 miles away)
Here I see Jesus resting, taking a break from the chatter of his noisy younger brothers, and getting his thoughts together before confronting that crowd sure to be gathered at Qumran, the Essene Cult headquarters. Also he had a plan to really startle them. He would appear before them not in his usual "David" clothes, but would borrow Jonathan Annas' brilliant white high priestly outfit for a real "showing". Verse 10 "But when his brethren were gone up, then went he up unto the feast, not openly, but as it were in secret." 11 "Then the Jews (his political enemies) sought him at the feast, and said, Where is he? 12 "And there was much murmuring among the people concerning him; for some said, He is a good man: others said, Nay, but he decieveth the people. 13 Howbeit no man spake openly of him for fear of the Jews."
14 "Now about the midst of the feast Jesus went up into the temple (a designated part of the Qumran monastery), and taught. 15 And the Jews marvelled (read that "jeered"), How knoweth this man letters, having never learned?" (Jesus had a good Essene education, this was a false accusation, as is usual in political campaigning). 16 "Jesus answered them and said, My doctrine is not mine, but his that sent me. (He taught peaceful coexistence with the Romans, as did the Sadducees, but not the Pharisees -- "Jewry") 17 "If any man shall do his will, he will know of the doctrine, whether it be of God, or whether I speak of myself." (Then a discussion of Moses' laws, and circumcision on the Sabbath) (The discussion continues on various topics until verse 37, at which time Jesus made his ":move" dressed in the garments of an Essene "High Priest". 37 "In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me and drink. 38 He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water. 39 (But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive: for the Holy Ghost was not yet given; because that Jesus was not yet glorified.)
Jesus, after his crucifixion and resurrection from the dead six months after this "Transfiguration" was no longer recognized as the "Messiah" of David, and his younger brother James inherited that position, which he was coveting at the beginning of John chapter 7. Jesus spent a lot of time in "Heaven" (the Qumran monastery) and was eventually recognized by those Essenes who formed a "Christian" off-shoot as their one and only "High Priest" for the rest of the first century AD.
In Revelation chapters 1-3 John of Zebedee pictures Jesus as an Essene "High Priest" walking among seven candlesticks standing for the seven Christian churches in Asia. Rev. 1:12 "And I turned to see the voice that spake with me. And being turned, I saw seven golden candlesticks; 13 And in the midst of the seven candlesticks one like unto the Son of man, clothed with a garment down to the foot, and girt about the paps with a golden girdle."
And in "Hebrews", written by the Essene evangelist Apollos, (not Paul) Jesus is a "High Priest" after the order of Melchisedek, not Aaron. "And so it was" (as they say in the Bible) that about 1800 years passed, until 1844 |

After the "Great Disappointment" of October 22, 1844, when overnight many thousands of people in New England, New York, and indeed smaller groups all over the world had stayed up all night waiting to see Jesus appear in the clouds of heaven as promised in Revelation 1:7, Matthew 24:30, 31, and William Miller taught Daniel 8:14 "Unto two thousand and three hundred days (years): then shall the sanctuary (earth) be cleansed (when Jesus appears!)" One of the many people disappointed was a Millerite-Adventist named Hiram Edson, who lived in Port Gibson, New York. While crossing a corn-field he reportedly had the vision shown here of Jesus still, 1800 years after Hebrews and Revelation were written, still up there in the sky officiating as "Our High Priest" in a "Heavenly Sanctuary".
Now Hiram Edson was a Bible-reader, not a "visionary" and it's not really certain that he had a vision in that corn-field of the usual type described in the Bible. He had been reading Hebrews, about Jesus being a "High Priest" after the order of Melchisedek, and maybe he was just daydreaming, but another Millerite-Adventist of those times a few years later, in 1849, did have a real vision of Jesus in a "Heavenly Sanctuary" in a group of people in Topsham, Maine, and wrote about this vision at some length. This second person was Ellen G. White, recently married at that time to Elder James White. He published her vision in a little book titled "The Experience and Views of Ellen G. White", later to become a part of another book "Early Writings."

As a part of this April 3, 1847 vision of Ellen White at the home of brother Stockbridge Howland in Topsham, Maine, Sister White also prophesied: "I saw that the holy Sabbath is, and will be, the separating wall between the true Israel of God, and the unbelievers; and that the Sabbath is the great question to unite the hearts of God's dear waiting saints." Now, 2014 -1847 = 167 years later it appears that this is just one more of a series of Ellen White's prophecies that has FAILED, but I will explain later, as a part of the many pages listed and linked to under Index page 4 (Index D) how this prophecy was indeed FULFILLED when properly interpreted by the FINAL "ELIJAH". |
