14 And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years: 15 And let them be for lights in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth: and it was so. 16 And God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night: he made the stars also. 17 And God set them in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth. 18 And to rule over the day and over the night, and to divide the light from the darkness; and God saw that it was good. 19 And the evening and the morning were the fourth day. |

14 God said, "Let there be lights in the expanse of the sky to separate day from night; they shall serve as signs for the set times -- the days and the years; 15 and they shall serve as lights in the expanse of the sky to shine upon the earth." And it was so. 16 God made the two great lights, the greater light to dominate the day and the lesser light to dominate the night, and the stars. 17 And God set them in the expanse of the sky to shine upon the earth, 18 to dominate the day and the night, and to separate light from darkness. And God saw that this was good. 19 And there was evening and there was morning, a fourth day. |

20 God said, "Let the waters bring forth swarms of living creatures, and birds that fly above the earth across the expanse of the sky." 21 God created the great sea monsters, and all the living creatures of every kind that creep, which the waters brought forth in swarms, and all the winged birds of every kind. And God saw that it was good. 22 God blessed them, saying, "Be fertile and increase, fill the waters in the seas, and let the birds increase on the earth." 23 And there was evening and there was morning, a fifth day. |
24 And God said, Let the earth bring forth the living creature after his kind, cattle, and creeping thing, and beast of the earth after his kind: and it was so. 25 And God made the beast of the earth after his kind, and cattle after their kind, and every thing that creepeth upon the earth after his kind: and God saw that it was good. 26 And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. 27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. 28 And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replentish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and every living thing that moveth upon the earth. 29 And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat. 30 And to every beast of the earth, and to every fowl of the air, and to every thing that creepeth upon the earth, wherein there is life, I have given every green herb for meat: and it was so. 31 And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day." |

And it was so. 25 God made wild beasts of every kind and cattle of every kind, and all kinds of creeping things of the earth. They shall rule the fish of the sea, the birds of the sky, the cattle, the whole, and all the creeping things that creep on the earth earth." 27 And God created man in His image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. 28 God blessed them and God said to them, "Be fertile and increase, fill the earth and master it; and rule the fish of the sea, the birds of the sky, and all the living things that creep on earth." 29 God said, "See, I give you every seed-bearing plant that is upon all the earth, and every tree that has seed-bear- ing fruit; they shall be yours for food. 30 And to all the animals on land, to all the birds of the sky, and to everything that creeps on the earth, in which there is the breath of life, [I give] all the green plants for food." Gen. 2:1 "Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them. 2 "And on the SEVENTH DAY God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the SEVENTH DAY from all his work which he had made. 3 And God blessed the SEVENTH DAY, and sancti- fied it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made. 4 These are the generations of the heavens and of the earth when they were created, in the day that the Lord God made the earth and the heavens." |

Allowing for the fact that the Jewish translation is much more recent than the King James' Version, still there are some differences that should be noted. A "wind from God" is not the same as the "Holy Spirit", transformed into part of an all-male "Trinity" after the 4th century CE. A fourth day is not exactly the same as THE fourth day, etc. A fourth day could be ANY fourth day, with the numbering beginning at any time....the wording of the Jewish version allows for more symbolic latitude....EG: any dark" period, or "evening" no matter how long, followed by any "light" period, or "morning", no matter how long, could make up a "day" which was the sum of both periods in length, not a mere 24 hours. It seems likely such language now exists in the current TANAKH in English precisely because Jewish translators are aware of other Biblical texts in which a "day" can mean a year, or a thousand years. ..... |
The story of Creation, including the creation of the Sabbath, here in Genesis 1 and 2:1-3 is not the only story of creation in the Bible.... We need not look far to find another one....It begins in the KJV with Gen. 2:4 and in the TANAKH with Gen. 2:5....And there is a Third story that varies from the other two complete in Jewish oral tradition with occasional clues and partial pieces throughout the Old Testament.....A story in which a feminine WISDOM takes a part as the Advisor to the Almighty......In the New Testament WISDOM becomes Jesus, and does His own creating, with very little assistence, it seems, from anyone else! From the Vatican; |
In view of the fact that so many BIBLICAL and TRADITIONAL versions of CREATION are freely available for anyone to read, and in view of the prevalence of skepticism of the Church of the Middle Ages' continued supression of DISSENTERS to their Archaic decisions, which this church is still inclined to FORCE, by any means possible, on the rest of us, I feel it is time to |
