I got acquainted with Ron Wyatt back in 1988 and 1989 because of his
search for the "Ark of the Covenant" which he was continuing his
on-going search for in the tunnels that exist below the streets and
houses and lots and cemeteries of Old Jerusalem. His
theory was that the prophet Jeremiah had managed to hide this
Holy Golden Ark
in one of these tunnels and walled up the tunnel and buried it so
thoroughly just before the Babylonians had invaded that no one (but
Ron) has ever been able to catch a glimpse of it since.

Ron
Wyatt believed, along with
General Gordon, who found
this tomb in 1883, and thousands, perhaps millions of others, who have
seen it since as religious tourists, that this ancient tomb near the
Damascus Gate outside the walled city of Jerusalem, Israel, was where
Jesus Christ was crucified, and buried, and rose from the dead after 3
days.
However, Ron also had the unusual belief that as Jesus was hanging on
a cross near here, and as he was dying, his blood dripped down through
a crack connected with the hole in the rock his cross was anchored in,
on a hidden object far below.

October 12, 1989
While three of us, Ron Wyatt, and Randy Osborne, and myself, Dr. Bob
Holt, md, were engaged in trying to reach this ark with an electric
jack-hammer drill and bring it to the surface, we were met by a "Man
in White"
who we later decided was Jesus himself dropping
by to "Wish us success on our mission."

An actor playing Jesus looked
like this in one of the Jesus movies put out by Hollywood, but perhaps
did not when Ron talked to him, or some other entity playing his role
and making speeches for him that noon by Ron Wyatt's excavation near
Gordon's Calvary. He quite likely had a more modern appearance,
as an artist has pictured him here. I don't know because I
was hidden a few feet away but heard both sides of the conversation
clearly.

The same week that we met the "Man
in
White,"
but before this encounter, Randy and I, but not Ron Wyatt, met two
other "Angels" that looked and talked like humans at a place
identified as Har Zin in the Negev Desert.
This other
encounter became more important to me than it was to Ron Wyatt,
because it became the first of my own encounters with such "beings".
Encounters that continued for many years, some of which I did relate
later on other pages.

The mountain called "Har Zin" as
seen in the distance across the desert.

Garden Tomb excavation
The Discovery of the Ark of
the Covenant by Ron Wyatt – The Search Begins
"In 1978, Ron
and his sons, Danny and Ronny, made two trips to Israel in order to
drive down to the western shore of the Gulf of Aqaba in Egypt to
search for chariot
parts in the
Red Sea.
This was during the time that Israel was
occupying the Sinai Peninsula and therefore, the place Ron believed to
be the crossing site could only be reached by traveling from Israel
instead of going through Cairo.
"During his 2nd dive trip, he learned a very
painful lesson. He swam for hours, searching the sea floor at
a depth of about 30 feet
– believing that the water would filter out
the sun’s harmful rays. However, this wasn’t the case and as a result,
his legs and feet became painfully swollen to such an extent that he
couldn’t get his fins on.
"Unable
to dive anymore, and with no motel in the area, he and the boys had no
choice but to return to Jerusalem to wait until their flight from Tel
Aviv left for the US.
"One day
in Jerusalem, after the swelling in Ron’s legs and feet went down a
bit, he decided to go sightseeing in the immediate area around his
hotel near the Damascus Gate. Walking along an ancient stone quarry,
known to some as “the Calvary Escarpment,” he began conversing with a
local authority about Roman antiquities.

"At one point, they stopped walking, and Ron’s
left hand pointed to a site being used as a trash dump and he stated,
“That’s Jeremiah’s Grotto and the
Ark of the Covenant is in there.” Even though these words had
come from his own mouth and his own hand had pointed, he had not
consciously done or said these things.
In fact, it was the first time he had ever thought about excavating
for the Ark.
"The man
with him, quite out of character, also reacted strangely. He said,
“That’s
wonderful! We want you to excavate, and we’ll furnish your permits,
put you up in a place to stay and even furnish your meals!”
"But Ron
didn’t know what to think – he knew it was a “supernatural”
experience, but was it of God, or was it of “someone else”? By this
time, Ron had made major discoveries in Turkey, and had found numerous
chariot parts in the Red Sea. But not once had he ever
had an experience such as this.
It was like a
thunderbolt out of the blue on a perfectly sunny day.
He had to decline the man’s offer, at least
until he could figure out if there was any reason to believe the Ark
could be in that location. So, he and the boys came on home as
planned. But once at home, Ron began some serious research and study."
Another "Vision", Quite like Ron
Wyatt's "Vision", but 2000
years ago-- Not at the Damascus Gate, but
On the Road to Damascus! ---
Acts
9:1 "And Saul, yet breathing out threatenings and slaughter
against the disciples of the Lord, went unto the high priest, 2
And desired of him letters to Damascus to the synagogues, that if he
found any of this
WAY
(another name for the
Essenes,
used consistently throughout Acts),
whether they were men or women, he might bring them bound unto
Jerusalem."
3 "And
as he journeyed, he came near Damascus, and
suddenly there shined about him a light
from heaven:--"
4 "And he
fell to the earth, and heard a voice saying unto him,
Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me?"
5 "And he said, Who art thou, Lord?
And the Lord said,
I am Jesus whom thou
persecutest: It is hard for thee to kick against the pricks."
6 "And he trembling and astonished
said, Lord, what wilt thou have me to do? And the Lord said unto him,
Arise, and go
into the city, and it shall be told thee what thou must do."
7 "And the men which
journeyed with him stood speechless, hearing a voice, but seeing no
man."
2000 years later!
It was while Ron was doing this "serious research and study" and the
actual excavation there at and near the "Garden Tomb" that the rest of
Ron's "Vision" of Jesus being crucified here, and his blood dripping
on the Ark of the Covenant far below occurred to him. Not all at
once, but over a period of several years' time.
This "Vision" was
almost complete in its details by the time, 10 or 11 years later, when
I, Dr. Bob Holt, md, was helping him with this project.
I was there helping Ron try
to dig straight down over the place where Ron had determined by using
a Subsurface Interface Radar belonging to Sunbelt Bakery ("Little
Debbie" Snacks) that this picture of Randy Osborn was taken. It was
Randy's hard labor with an electric jack-hammer drill that made this
square hole a great deal deeper during this 1989 trip to Jerusalem.

The Location of the
Excavation
"The quarry which
contains the site Ron was to excavate is part of the northern
extension of Mt. Moriah. On the east, south and west sides of
Jerusalem are very deep valleys which protect the city from foreign
invaders.
"But on this
north side, they were vulnerable. Therefore, a “dry moat” or trench
was quarried out of “Mt. Moriah” on the north side to prevent an enemy
from being able to simply reach and break through the wall along this
ridge.
"Then, at some
unknown point in time, the northern portion of “Moriah”, now separated
from the city, was used as a stone quarry. Starting on the south end
of this now separated part of “Moriah”, on the western side, stone was
cut out of the mountain, lowering the ground level to that of the
trench which extends just outside of the north wall.
"The
site Ron pointed to was along the quarried face (escarpment) of “Mt.
Moriah”. This cliff-face is referred to by some as “the Calvary
escarpment” because it contains the “skull-face” that many believe was
“Golgotha” or “Calvary” where Christ was crucified.
"It also
contains the site traditionally called “Jeremiah’s Grotto”, the
“Garden Tomb” (where many believe Christ was buried) and St. Etienne
which contains a large complex of Jewish tombs dating to the 1st and
2nd temple periods cut into the side of the mountain.
"The
escarpment is many hundreds of feet long. And it was Ron’s belief that
this WAS the general area of the crucifixion, and the Garden Tomb, he
also believed, was indeed that of Joseph of Arimathaea which had once
held the body of Christ. But these things were not related to this
project. He was now searching for the Ark of the Covenant.
The Excavation Begins
"It was
January, 1979 when Ron and the boys returned to Jerusalem. Snow was on
the ground. He now had to decide how and where to begin. The site he
had pointed to was being used as a trash dump and appeared to hold
very little promise to the human eye. It was located along this
escarpment where the ground met the cliff-face. He had investigated
the area adjacent to the escarpment and realized that the ground was
raised to a much higher level today, which meant that the rock floor
was many, many feet below the present ground level.
"In the past,
Jerusalem has been destroyed many, many times. And the customary
method of rebuilding these ancient cities was to simply build on top
of the destruction level. Today, the debris is removed before
rebuilding, but not so back then. This is why archaeologists are able
to find evidences of many cities which have existed on the same site –
they simply excavate through each successive level down to the next
until they reach bedrock – which indicates that they have reached the
first city to be established on that particular site.
"The
site Ron was to excavate had a ground level many feet higher than the
quarry floor to the south before the city wall. So, he and the boys
could do nothing but begin to dig straight down.
"The
original location that he had pointed to in 1978 contained an
extremely large boulder just barely exposed above the surface, and Ron
decided to begin digging several yards to the right. It was to be a
job of mammoth proportions – Ron, Danny and Ronny, would eventually
remove many tons of rock and debris, having to sift through all of it
for any artifacts. This was a requirement of the Department of
Antiquities which they would always comply with.
First Discovery –
The Crucifixion Site?
"They
dug straight down along the cliff face, forming a steep wall with the
earth they removed.
Almost immediately, Ron noticed a “shelf-like”
niche cut into the face of the cliff. Digging down further, he
discovered there were 3 of these “niches” cut into the face of the
cliff with a smaller one on the right side.
"He was
convinced that these were cut into the cliff-face to hold “signs” or
notices. And because of the location – in the vicinity of the
“skull-face”, and because there were 3 of these, he believed they were
where the notices stating the crime of the crucifixion victim in 3
languages were placed."

Ark of the Covenant
Excavation Reveals Plastered Enclosure

Excavations just completed in Jerusalem
revealed what appears to be a 12,000 gallon Byzantine cistern. A
circular plastered enclosure measuring approximately sixteen feet in
diameter and approximately ten feet in height was partially
excavated. The cistern having walls as much as six feet in thickness
adjoins an un-plastered circular room which surrounds the crevice
which Ron Wyatt associated with the crucifixion site.
A date has not been established for the un-plastered room and at
this time archaeologists are uncertain as to it’s function. Quoting
one investigator: “I am perplexed. I have never seen anything
exactly like this.”
The photo at the top is a view of the excavation from the surface
some thirty feet above.
At the bottom and right side of the picture steel shoring frames
are visible.
At right-center the un-plastered circular room surrounding the
“crevice” and “cross hole” area can be seen. Removal of the
overburden, by way of the recent excavations, made it possible to
reveal and define the circular nature of the room. In the past only
portions of the walls could be seen on each side of the “crevice”
and “cross hole.” A steel drilling platform which was employed in
the excavation is seen in the center of the room.
In the lower left an excavation opening is seen which leads into
the cistern. This opening was created as a result of the recent dig
and is in addition to an 2005 opening through a six foot thick
cistern wall that is built on bedrock.
The elevation of the bedrock under the cistern wall gets higher
as it extends to the north toward the cliff face. The man made
portion of the cistern wall is five or six feet high where we cut
through last year. Near the cliff face the bedrock is at a much
higher elevation requiring less construction.
It is interesting to note that we find the remains of a plastered
floor at the elevation of the cistern rim. The wall of the circular
room surrounding the “cross hole” and “crevice” seems to have been
slightly higher than that of the cistern, as it extends above the
plastered floor by about eighteen inches.
It is also interesting to note that the “cross hole” and
“crevice” is located in the center of the unidentified circular
room.
At the top-center sand bags cover a portion
of a stone stairway. The lower portion
of the stairway is missing and seems to have been unintentionally
removed by Ron Wyatt as he originally entered the area. Working
underground and in a confined area it would have been impossible for
Ron to have recognized the nature of the stones that had to be
removed for access. Projecting down the existing stairs, the
indication is that the stairway would lead into the cistern along
it’s Northern walls.
The second image is an overlay of the 2005 excavation along with
the outline of the position of the circular walls as revealed by the
recent excavation.
NOW THAT THE
DIRECTORS OF THE "GARDEN TOMB" KNOW THERE'S NO ARK OF THE COVENANT
HERE, NOR HAS THERE EVER BEEN, THE TOUR GUIDE SAYS THIS --
"Whether this was
the actual geographic location then became less relevant than the
spiritual meaning of the story as the guide admonished us that
if we went into the tomb looking for Jesus, like his apostles so many centuries before,
we
would not find him there. Accordingly, if we brought Jesus into the
tomb with us, we should not leave him there, but bring him along
with us as we went back out to face the world he came to save."
