The Isle of Patmos

    

     

   "At first, John of Zebedee came with Jesus to the island of Patmos, off the coast of Asia Minor.  There he wrote the first part of the book of Revelation, with letters to the seven churches of the province of Asia, conveying the will of Jesus concerning the different problems, moral and doctrinal, that were besetting them.  The letter to Thyratira, in which the teaching of "Jezebel" was condemned, may have brought about the change of doctrine by Lydia that led to her rebaptism at the time of her remarriage the following year."
      Barbara Thiering writes:"John wrote that he was on the island of Patmos "on account of the word of God and the testimony of Jesus".   He was "in the Spirit on the Lord's day", that is, acting as a presbyter on the Sunday service, when he heard behind him a loud voice telling him to write what he saw, in a book. " 
     "John was facing the congregation, and Jesus was behind him in the position of priest.  He turned, and saw "in the midst  of the [seven] lamp stands one like the Son of Man".  There were candles on the holy table, in the formation still used by the Roman church: three on either side running from the centre, with the Pope in the position of the central light."

      Instead of the totally Roman Catholic imagery suggested by Dr. Thiering, I have shown on the last page that the imagery is that of a YOM KIPPUR ("Day of Atonement") ceremony at Qumran, with Jesus dressed in the typical attire of an Essene "High Priest", and that periodically throughout the rest of Revelation he continues on with this ceremony.   But that is not the only symbolism here, there is the astrological symbolism here, further emphasized in chapter four.  So, as some artists have drawn it, we can also see Jesus as standing in the heavens, surrounded by the candlesticks, also in the sky.  Even without knowing about Essene Astrology, this artist has come close to this symbolism.

     Once one understands that the Essenes in the end supported a MILLENNIAL WEEK prophecy, also shown in John chapter 7, the 8 parables of Matthew 13, and Daniel chapter 12, its possible to find the same MILLENNIAL WEEK prophecy in Revelation chapters 2 and 3.   Each church and its associated candle stick stands for 1000 years, starting about 4000 BC and extending until 3000 AD. And we are now living in the 7th millennium of a "Millennial Week".

 The above order is a geographic one: in Revelation 2 and 3 the order is a different one.
