TEMPTED!

The Old Testa-

ment is not com

-pletely clear on

Who it is that

tempts humans

to sin....King

Saul was sent an

Evil Spirit to

torment him.

The Evil Spirit

came from God.

[1 Sam.16:14-

16].

In the New Testament Gospels, one of the first things

that Jesus son of Mary had to experience was a

TEMPTATION by an Evil Spirit [Satan himself, no

lesser demon would do] before he was fit to become

Our Savior from SIN!

Returning now to 1 Samuel 16:15-23, we discover that King Saul's servants knew

what to do about these Evil Spirits sent from God, and successfully dealt with

King Saul's problem! ...They sent for young David, who played his harp whenever

Saul was feeling bad, and "the evil spirit departed from him." [This story has

sexual overtones that Sigmund Freud would make an issue of, but let's not get into

that because this Website would soon be banned, screened, and filtered out!]....

Fundamentalists are certain every Bible Story has a truthful purpose, or the story

would not be in the Bible....and that these purposes are CLEAR and cannot be

misunderstood.....What seems CLEAR here is 1) God can send Evil our

way...2) He [God] allows us to "defend ourselves" from this EVIL...

3) David was not defeating God's purposes by playing his harp and

allowing King Saul to think clearly and feel well once more!

Or is it really that "clear" ...after all!

The more CLEVER among us, some of which also browse the INTERNET,

can also see the OPPOSITE can be deduced...1) Only the Devil can send EVIL

our way [and the author of 1 Samual 16 made a mistake]....and 2) God [or the

Devil, whichever] cannot allow His [their] plans for King Saul to be interrupted...

and 3) Young David is at great risk by playing MUSIC that interferes with the plans

of an ALMIGHTY God [and almost ALMIGHTY Devil!]....4) Music is a powerful

TOOL if it can affect even SUPERNATURAL FORCES for GOOD or EVIL!

The Rest of the Story..."Jesus Tempted"

[Note that in the old engraving, from a book printed in 1888, the "Devil"

is completely naked, and has an athletic "Charles Atlas" appearance...

we won't discuss the implications of that either!]

There are 3 versions of the "Temptation of Christ"....John's Gospel

completely ignores the story...which should alert some of us that

"fiction and myth" are involved! ...Here we'll use Matthew's version,

for comparison usually shows this to be the most MAGICAL, and

therefore best-remembered and beloved!

Here we'll blur the picture so Satan's

nakedness is not so obvious!

Matthew 4:1 "Then was Jesus led

by the spirit [God's Spirit we ass-

ume] into the wilderness to be

tempted of the devil."

2 "And when he had fasted forty

days and forty nights, he was

afterward and hungered."

3 "And when the tempter came

to him, he said, If thou be the

Son of God, command that

these stones be made bread."

4 "But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone,

but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God." [Deut. 8:3]

5 "Then the Devil taketh him up into the holy city, and setteth him on a

pinnacle of the temple,

6 And saith unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down; for

it is written, He shall give his angels charge concerning thee: and in their

hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against

a stone."

7 "Jesus said unto him, It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord

thy God." [Deut. 6:16]

8 "Again, the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and

sheweth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them;

9 And saith unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall

down and worship me."

10 "Then said Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan; for it is written, Thou

shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve."

11 "Then the devil leaveth him, and, behold, angels came and ministered

unto him."

The usual explanation given by both Catholic Priests and Fundamentalist

Preachers is that "Satan" was allowed a one-time dispensation to warp the

meaning of certain Bible Texts that we cannot misunderstand [with the

help of the popes, scholars, and church councils]....however, if you

continue on this series on this WEB-SITE, other explanations will be

available the popes, priests, and church councils will not agree with!

Including, from two major "Bible Codes", and Doctor

Holt's own research and form criticism, what's really

going on here in "Christ's Temptation"!

Dr. Robert Holt, MD, MPH, has been to Qumran a number of times, has explored all the major Essene Sites in the Judean Desert, and is proficient in both "Gospel Pesher" and the New Torah Computer Codes....His explanations are NEW and UNORTHODOX and not supported by any Church!
