On Sabbath morning, September 2, 2017, Pastor Patrick Williams of the Asheville NC "Foster Memorial SDA Church" spoke about APOLLOS, the fellow Apostle of Christ who "competed" with the Apostle Paul in Patrick's "contest" for the "Greatest Apostle". Now it just so happens that APOLLOS is also the name for the Greek and Roman SUN GOD, one of a family of mythical gods that the Greeks and Romans in the time of Jesus Christ and the Apostle Paul knew about, discussed frequently, and some of these people may have believed actually existed and were able to help them with their wishes and problems.
APOLLOS cannot be at first easily identified in this cartoon group picture of mythical Greek gods, but I'll here give you several of APOLLOS by himself.
NOW THAT WE KNOW THAT APOLLOS, BESIDES BEING THE SUN GOD AND THE FAVORITE SON OF ZEUS - WAS ALSO AN ARCHER, A MUSICIAN, A POET, A HEALER, AND A PROPHET -- WE CAN EASILY IDENTIFY HIM NEAR TO ZEUS (THE BIG GUY) TO HIS RIGHT, WITH A QUIVER OF ARROWS. BUT, Patrick's intention was not to talk about GREEK GODS, but to continue his series about the individual 12 Apostles of JESUS CHRIST, with several more now added to the 12, the new apostle Matthias, chosen to replace Judas after the crucifixion of Jesus, and later Saul of Tarsus (Paul) and later yet on September 2, APOLLOS, who like Paul had begun preaching Christ among the Gentiles. He gained a large following, some of which considered him to be an even "Greater" preacher than Paul. And Paul is less than enthusiastic about this.
As he did with his other sermons about the other Apostles, Patrick only gave the traditions about Apollos. And what Paul revealed about some "competition" between Paul and Apollos in his letters. And a mention of him by Luke in Acts. But I'll be able to tell you MUCH MORE about this APOLLOS the eloquent Christian preacher ( and "rabble rouser" ) of the middle First Century AD because of my knowledge of Essene "Gospel Pesher" and because I can read it out of Dr. Barbara Thiering's book, "Jesus and the Riddle of the Dead Sea Scrolls."
