The Big Front Doors

Other Doors were Opened [Not for Adventists]

Page 3 of the "Front Door" Series

Soon after she had her first vision in the late fall or early winter of 1844, Ellen Harmon married James White, an Adventist minister, and for about seven years they both preached a SHUT DOOR theology.

Although Ellen and her husband moderated this absolute SHUT DOOR theology after 1851 in regards to the idea that no one but SABBATH-KEEPERS could be "saved", she did forbid Adventists to pay any attention to any of the NEW spiritual phenomena that began happening after 1844.  Specifically they were to disregard the KNOCKINGS the Fox sisters were hearing near Rochester, New York.    But from there on in her chapter in "Early Writings" she goes on to describe a lot of other religious phenomena that Adventists were absolutely FORBIDDEN to have anything to do with.

I am presenting my common-sense explanation for why Ellen and James White at first taught a SHUT DOOR then later began teaching an OPEN DOOR on these pages.   Let me point out FIRST that the Bible teaches both concepts, that of a SHUT DOOR and that of an OPEN DOOR.

"Early Writings" page 43, bottom of page. "I saw that Satan was working through agents in a number of ways.  He was at work through ministers who have rejected the truth and are given over to strong delusions  to believe a lie that they might be damned.  While they were preaching or praying, some would fall prostrate and helpless, not by the power of the Holy Ghost, but by the power of Satan breathed upon these agents, and through them to the people."

These words of Ellen White clearly describe the "Pentecostal- Holiness" experience, here forbidden to Adventists for many years -- until "Celebration" Adventists -- [under Robert Folkenberg] ignored these words!

"While preaching, praying, or conversing, some professed Adventists who had rejected present truth [meaning, of course, her instructions in this chapter] used mesmerism [hypnosis] to gain adherents, and the people would rejoice in this influence, for they thought it was the Holy Ghost. Some even that used it were so far in the darkness and deception of the devil that they thought it was the power of God, given them to exercise."
This a very specific prophecy of something that happened in the Carolina Conference of Seventh-day Adventists in the 1980s, about 130 years after Ellen White made this prophecy.   How can anyone call someone a False Prophet who did indeed make such accurate prophecies?

Robert Folkenberg, pictured here [his caricature] was conference president then, and became interested in group hypnosis [mesmerism] under the more modern name of  Transpersonal Hypnotherapy or Spiritual Hypnotherapy in which large groups of people, even whole church audiences can be taken on mind trips, via suggestions from the pulpit.

Although Pastor Folkenberg may not have then understood ALL of what these techniques promote, he had definitely started down this trail!

Transpersonal Hypnotherapy or Spiritual Hypnosis

A Transpersonal or Spiritual approach to hypnosis does not require a belief in a personal deity, a religion, or a belief in the existence of an immortal soul. However, it does require a willingness to explore the possibility that within each one of us is an inner wisdom and intuition that can guide us through our life experiences. At the heart of Transpersonal or Spiritual Hypnotherapy is the belief that as we connect with this higher awareness we do transform. As we transform, we are emboldened to create the life we envision for ourselves

Transpersonal and Spiritual Hypnotherapy utilizes breathing and relaxation techniques, and guided imagery to induce a hypnotic state. In addition to reprogramming the unconscious / subconscious mind with predetermined suggestions and goals, we uncover your inner resources.

When approaching Transpersonal and Spiritual Hypnotherapy, we agree to explore the following:

  • The existence of your mind body spirit/soul connection

  • A higher self or spiritual awareness that exists beyond your mind and body

  • A higher self or spiritual awareness that can and wil

  • l guide you throughout your life experiences with new insights and wisdom

  • How to access this inner resource to improve the quality of your life

If you have discovered the above as part of your Truth or you if you are ready to explore further, we can:

  • Communicate with Your Guides and Angels

  • Heal Your Inner Child

  • Learn to Become Your Own Healer

  • Create Abundance in Your Life

  • Live a Heart Centered Life

  • Connect with the Light

  • Retrieve Fragmented Parts of Self (Soul Retrieval)

  • Improve Meditation Practices

  • Transform Anger and Bitterness into Forgiveness (Forgiveness doesn’t mean condoning the actions of others. It means ceasing to relive the harm done to you by others.)

  • Transform Dysfunctional Relationships into Loving Ones or Provide a Peaceful Resolution

  •  And more...

Continued Ellen White on page 44 of "Early Writings."They had made God  altogether such a one as themselves and had valued His power as a thing of nought."
Here Ellen is describing another large group of New Age religions which are NON-TRINITARIAN -- "God altogether such a one as themselves can mean either that Jesus was a man, as we humans are, or that we are all "Gods", or at least as much so as Jesus was a God---

In this group of NON-TRINITARIANS were and are - Unitarians, Jews, Muslims, Hindus, Buddhists, Jehovah's Witnesses, Mormons [Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter-day Saints], World-wide Church of God, Unity Church of Christianity [although they will deny it], Christian Scientists, Seventh-day Adventists before the 1950s,  Smyrna West Virginia SDA Church, and of course a whole host of New Age Churches and groups too numerous to mention.

Another group is mentioned also on page 44, middle of the page --- Some of these agents of Satan were affecting the bodies of some of the saints -- those whom they could not deceive and draw away from the TRUTH [read that Seventh- day Adventism and orthodox Christianity] by a Satanic influence." This by a process of elimination refers to the work, prophecies, past-life descriptions, and particularly healings of Edgar Cayce, the "SLEEPING PROPHET".   Those who contacted Edgar Cayce were not particularly religious, but were healed anyway, NO ONE WAS TURNED AWAY BECAUSE OF BELIEF OR LACK OF BELIEF!

Ellen White in finishing up her chapter on "The Open and the Shut Door" does not EVER offer the Seventh-day Adventists any hope of EVER going through ANY of these other OPEN DOORS.  But she did predict [in other dreams and visions] that these alternative religious would be very successful!  Page 45. "I saw that the mysterious signs and wonders and false reformations that were shown me were not reformations from error to truth.  My accompanying angel bade me look for the travail of soul for sinners as used to be.  I looked, but could not see it; for the TIME for their SALVATION is past."

For everyone else, but not for Adventists - these "other doors" were both available and wide open.   Other Christians and indeed even "New Age People" prefer to believe that God has never "shut a door" to anyone, even those who continuously break his commandments, so this picture will be one they prefer to believe presents the true picture.
