Jesus Christ
and “Enoch”: Competitors
The Real Reason that “Enoch”
had to “Disappear”
Christianity cannot Tolerate Two
Unique “Only-Begotten” Sons of God!
as
told by Robert Holt
There were obviously those in Jesus’ time who believed in
reincarnation. Some of these are represented in the
Gospels as suggesting that Jesus himself was a reincarnation
of one of the earlier prophets, or in a usage more tolerable to
the Pharisees, “one of the earlier prophets risen from the
dead.”
We must ask, those of us who have now read the “resurrected”
Enoch why it was that “Enoch” was not among those
suggested? To ask the question is to instantly
know the answer! So many details in the theology of
Jesus exactly match the theology of Enoch, that it would be too
obvious that Jesus WAS the NEW “Enoch,” and such a
question could not be permitted!
Luke
9:7-8
“Now
Herod the tetrarch heard of all that was done by him
(Jesus):
and he was perplexed, because that it was said of some, that John
was risen from the dead; And of some, that Elias had appeared; and
of others, that one of the old prophets was risen again
(surely Enoch must
have been mentioned, the oldest and most famous prophet of all!)
Mark 6:15
“Others
said, That it is Elias. And others said, That it is a prophet
(has Enoch’s name been
intentionally removed here? And “a prophet” substituted after
Enoch’s book was labeled “apocryphal” by the Church
fathers?) –
or as one of the prophets.”
Matthew
16:13-17
“—Jesus
– asked his disciples, -- Whom do men say that I the
Son of
man
am?”
Those of us who have
read the Book of Enoch know that “Enoch” almost
always referred to HIMSELF (Enoch) as the “Son of Man”, and at
least on one occasion, as the “Son of a Woman”.
14
And they said, Some say that thou art John the Baptist:
(who by now was dead, and
eligible to be “resurrected”)
some,
Elias; (thought to be
still alive in heaven, having left earth in a “chariot of fire”)
and
others, Jeremias
(definitely dead for over 500 years by then, but could possibly be
reincarnated or resurrected),
or one
of the prophets (Enoch
would definitely fit in one of these three categories, having been
translated alive to heaven according to Genesis 5:24).”
By using the same name for himself that Enoch used for himself
(Enoch) Jesus is here suggesting to me, almost 2000 years later,
that it’s time to make this comparison, although Simon Peter, in
verse 16, appears to be totally oblivious to that possibility.
–“Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.”
Enoch 19:3
“And I, Enoch, I alone saw the likeness of the end of all things.
Nor did any human being see it, as I saw it.”
Here, Enoch
is unashamedly calling himself the greatest of all prophets!
Enoch
45:3,4
“In that day shall the
Elect
One
sit upon
a throne of glory; and shall choose their conditions and countless
habitations (while their spirits within them shall be
strengthened, when they behold my
Elect
One),
shall choose them for those who have fled for protection to
my holy and glorious name.
“In that day” in
scripture usually means, the “final day”, the “Day of Judgment”.
“In that day I will cause my
Elect
One
to dwell
in the midst of them; will change the face of heaven; will
bless it, and illuminate it for ever.”
This “Day of Judgment”
is now expanded to an entire “Age” a “Messianic Age”.
And by now we
are waiting to hear who this “Messiah” will be. The
Essenes who later read these words surely believed that they were
the “Elect One(s)” [plural] and that the “Messiah” referred to
MUST be their looked for “Messiah”.
Not only “heaven” will be “changed” but also “earth”. The
new heaven and earth of 2 Peter 3:13, and Revelation 16:18.
Enoch 45:5
“I will
also change the face of the earth; will bless it; and will
cause those whom I have
elected
to dwell upon it. But those who have committed sin and
iniquity shall not inhabit it, for I have marked their
proceedings. My righteous ones will I satisfy with peace,
placing them before me; but the condemnation of sinners shall draw
near, that I may destroy them from the face of the earth.”
The Book of Enoch
differs from “Gospel of
Christ” in that it’s always about the destruction of sinners,
divine and human, while Jesus taught “salvation” for sinners.
Enoch
46:1-3
“There I
beheld the Ancient of days, whose head was like white wool, and
with him another, whose countenance resembled that of man.
His countenance (the
man’s)
was full of grace, like that of one of the holy angels.
Then I inquired of one of the angels, who went with me, and who
showed me every secret thing, concerning this
Son
of
man;
who he was; whence he was; and why he accompanied the Ancient of
days.
“He answered and said to me, This is the
Son
of man,
to whom righteousness belongs; with whom
righteousness has dwelt; and who will reveal all the treasures of
that which is concealed: for the Lord of spirits has chosen him;
and his portion has surpassed all before the Lord of spirits in
everlasting uprightness.
“This
Son
of man,
whom
thou beholdest, shall raise up kings and the mighty men from their
couches, and the powerful from their thrones; shall loosen the
bridles of the powerful, and break in pieces the teeth of sinners
–etc.”
By repeating “the
Elect One” three times in Chapter 45, and “Son of man” three times
in Chapter 46, the author or authors of the Book of Enoch
is expertly raising our curiosity (and the curiosity of
all this book’s readers in the first century BC followed by the
first century AD) as to WHO this “Son of Man” will be.
To Jesus’ disciples after 29AD, it was of course Jesus, but
as we read on in the Book of Enoch we are in for a
surprise!
Enoch
48:2-8
“In that hour was this
Son
of man
invoked
before the Lord of spirits, and
his
name
in the
presence of the Ancient of days.”
(Note that if Enoch is the “Son of
man”, only his “Name” existed at this previous time, and that
Enoch had not as yet been born as an actual living person. This
is important to comprehend and understand!)
3
“Before the sun and the signs were created, before the stars of
heaven were formed,
his name
was invoked in the presence of the Lord of spirits. A
support shall he be for the righteous and the holy to lean upon,
without falling; and
he
(Enoch? – or will it
instead be Jesus Christ?)
shall be
the light of the nations.
4
He (Enoch? – or will it
instead be Jesus Christ?)
shall be
the hope of those whose hearts are troubled. All, who dwell
on earth, shall fall down and worship before
him
(Enoch? – or will it
instead be Jesus Christ?),
shall
bless and glorify
him,
and sing praises to the name of the Lord of spirits.
5 Therefore the
Elect
and the Concealed One
(Enoch? – or will it instead be Jesus Christ?),
existed
in his presence, before the world was created, and for ever.” –
etc.etc.
for 6 more verses.
Enoch 61:1, 2
“Thus
the Lord commanded the kings, the princes, the exalted, and those
who dwell on the earth, saying, Open your eyes, and lift up your
horns, if you are
capable
of comprehending the Elect One.
(Now there’s a challenge for us
all reading this “forbidden” and “challenging” book now in
the 21st century AD, wouldn’t you say?”)
2 The
Lord of spirits sat upon the throne of his glory.”
Enoch 61:8-10
“One
portion of them shall look upon another. They shall be
astonished, and shall humble their countenance; And trouble
shall seize them, when they shall behold this
Son
of woman
sitting
upon the throne of his glory. Then shall the kings, the princes,
and all who possess the earth glorify him who has dominion over
all things, him who was concealed; for from the beginning the
Son of man existed in secret,
whom the
Most High preserved in the presence of his power, and revealed to
the elect.”
Two important concepts
are being repeated over and over as we progress through
Enoch. One is that this is a human being, and neither
angel nor God. But by calling this person in verse 9 “the
Son of woman” the case for his humanity is made even
stronger!
The other
concept here stressed is the secrecy, and that the
selection was made long ago.
Enoch
68:37-39
“Great
was their joy. 38 They blessed, glorified, and exalted,
because the name of the
Son
of man
was
revealed to them. 39 He sat on the throne of his glory; and
the principal part of the judgment was assigned to him, the
Son
of man.
Sinners
shall disappear and perish from the face of the earth, while those
who seduced them shall be bound with chains for ever. 40 According
to their ranks of corruption shall they be imprisoned, and all
their works shall disappear from the face of the earth; nor
thence-forward shall there be any to corrupt; for the
Son
of man
has been
seen, sitting on the throne of his glory. 41 Everything wicked
shall disappear, and depart from before his face; and the word of
the
Son
of man
shall
become powerful in the presence of the Lord of Lord of spirits.”
Enoch 69:1-4
“After this the name of the
Son of
man,
living
with the Lord of spirits, was exalted by the inhabitants of the
earth. 2 It was exalted in the chariots of the Spirit; and the
name
went
forth in the midst of them.”
3 From
that time I (Enoch, NOT
Jesus)
was not drawn in the midst of them; but he
(God)
seated
me between two spirits, between the north and the west, where the
angels received their ropes, to measure out a place for the elect
and the righteous. 4 There I
(Enoch, NOT Jesus)
beheld the fathers of the first men, and the saints, who dwell in
that place for ever.”
Enoch
70:1, 4, 5-6
“Afterwards my spirit was concealed, ascending into the heavens.
I beheld the sons of the holy angels treading on flaming fire,
whose garments and robes were white, and whose countenances were
transparent as crystal.---And Michael –showed
me
(Enoch)
all the
hidden things of the extremities of heaven, all the receptacles of
the stars, and the splendours of all, from whence they went forth
before the face of the body. 6 And he
(Michael)
concealed the spirit of Enoch in the heaven of heavens.”
Enoch
70:13-15
“Then I (Enoch)
fell
upon my face, while all my flesh was dissolved, and my spirit
became changed. 14 I cried out with a loud voice, with a
powerful spirit, blessing, glorifying, and exalting. 15 And
those blessings, which proceeded from my mouth, became acceptable
in the presence of the Ancient of days.
Enoch
70:17
“Then
that angel came to me, and with his voice saluted
me
(Enoch)
, and
with his voice saluted me, saying, Thou
(Enoch)
art the
Son
of man*,
who art
born for right-eousness, and righteousness has rested on thee.”
*In Laurence’s
original translation of the Ethioptic version of Enoch he
substitutes “offspring of man” here, thus this verse reads
“Then that angel came to me, and with his voice saluted me,
saying, Thou art the offspring of man, who art born for
righteousness, and righteousness has rested on thee.”
Enoch 70:18, 23
“The
righteousness of the Ancient of days shall not forsake thee –23
And thus shall length of days be with the
Son
of man*.”
* Again, Laurence in 1883, deviated from his other
rendering throughout the book as Son of man here to instead
translate verse 23 as offspring of man.
Knibb (p. 166) and Charles (p. 183) indicate that both these
occurrences should be “Son of man” consistent with the other
occurrences of that term in the Book of Enoch.
Elizabeth Clare
Prophet writes on page 19 of
Forbidden Mysteries of Enoch: “Although Laurence’s
translation does not reflect it, it seems that Enoch himself was
called by God ‘Son of man.’ Biblical scholar H.H. Rowley
points out that various translators have hedged on this passage,
mistranslating it or even attempting to change the original
text which applies the words ‘Thou art the Son of man’ to
Enoch.”
The
Essene Coded Meaning of Enoch Chapter 70
The Essenes copied the Book of Enoch repeatedly
as the Catholic Priest Milik was to discover when it fell
his lot to put together all the little pieces of this book found
in Qumran cave four, and translate the Aramaic into English.
If the Essenes had wanted to convey the idea that Enoch was NOT
the “Son of man” referred to in chapter 70, they had all the
opportunity in the world to change this chapter to read something
else than it does.
The real history of the Essenes is revealed in the Scribal
“Pesher” they hid in the Gospels, Acts, and Revelation.
James the brother of Jesus took over his position as the Davidic
“Messiah” after Jesus’ crucifixion, and most of the Essenes did
not consider Jesus to be the “final Messiah” that would liberate
the Jews from Roman rule and fulfill so many Old Testament
prophecies. So it seemed safest to leave Enoch as it
was written.
Anyway, it is now known that the first-century AD Essenes were
expert astrologers. Their astrology was much
more sophisticated than the pseudo-astrology revealed in the
Book of Enoch and they have secretly but effectively
“converted” Enoch to the giant figure of Aquarius in
chapter 70. So it matters not if we consider
Aquarius to be a picture of Jesus Christ on his throne in the
sky “coming again”, or Enoch on his throne in the sky.
The real message is that the Age will change, theology will
change, and that mankind will again get a clean slate to start
anew living righteous lives (as Enoch chapter 70
suggests).
The key text to see this, if you wish to confront the
implications, is verse 13:
“Then I
(Enoch, a man, “Son of
man,” or “Son of woman”)
fell
upon my face (died),
while
all my flesh was dissolved
(as happens when each of us dies),
and my
spirit became changed
(from a man to a “divine” astrological figure, the constellation
Aquarius) 14
“I cried
out with a loud voice, with a powerful spirit
(to astrologers, such as
were the Essenes and Jesus, the most powerful religious force on
earth is a “New Age”),
blessing, glorifying, and exalting.” |
